Court Security Officer, Franklin County, Kansas

Position Summary:
The position performs security and safety functions within and around the perimeter of the Franklin County Courts Building.  Position requires both indoor and outdoor inspections during all types of working conditions, exposed to heat and cold extremes and temperature changes. There is a chance of occasional exposure to hazards or risk of bodily injury.  Constantly moves about patrolling County property providing a visible and physical deterrent in uniform while protecting life and property. Incumbent shall identify hazards; monitor for signs of criminal activity; and patrol for suspicious persons and/or vehicles.  The employee works under the supervision of the Sheriff or designee.

        Date to Close:  Open Until Filled

        Hours:  Generally, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday  Friday.
                Overtime may be required.

Additional Information:
High School Diploma or GED required.  Must possess or be able to obtain Kansas Law Enforcement Certification within one year of employment.  Valid class C Kansas driver’s license required.
Escorts inmates to and from court hearings and/or assists in transport of inmates as required.  Intervenes in verbal or physical altercations.  Maintains and exhibits discretion and integrity at all times when exposed to confidential information.  Works under adverse conditions of violence, danger, environment, and emotional stress responding to complaints and assistance requests.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and efficient working relationships with other employees, officials and the public required.  Ability to remain calm, accurately and quickly interpret situations and communicate information clearly in accordance with policy and procedures is required.
Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to perform at an acceptable level within six months of being awarded the position.
