Chief of Police, Hutchinson Police Department

Under the general direction of the City Manager, this position is primarily responsible for planning, organizing and directing the city's comprehensive police services and law enforcement program, including patrol, traffic enforcement, investigation, emergency communications center, animal services, and administrative support services.  Provides professional assistance to city management staff in areas of expertise and coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; and fosters cooperative working relationships with citizen groups and other agencies on police matters.

TYPE:  Full Time

SALARY:  $81,983-$126,768


The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience at an executive, administrative or command level (with minimum rank of Lieutenant) in a law enforcement agency of similar size and complexity.  Attendance at and successful completion of a law enforcement administrative/management professional development program such as the FBI National Academy (FBINA) and Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP).  Prior experience with 911 emergency communications operations is highly desirable. Experience with engaging labor organizations (unions) and maintaining positive relationships is strongly desired.
