Police Equipment Technician, Lenexa Police Department

The Lenexa Police Department is searching for motivated and enthusiastic individuals who work well in a team environment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory system. Additionally, they will be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and department staff.

Responsibilities include maintaining and controlling inventory, ordering, receiving and maintaining supplies and equipment for Police Department personnel. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Training Unit Supervisor.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Orders, receives and distributes supplies and equipment to new and existing police personnel as well as maintains inventories of supplies and equipment; submits bids to various vendors for uniforms, audio visual supplies, scientific and medical supplies and other police equipment.

  • Issue and collect equipment, vehicles and weapons to and from Police Department staff.

  • Assists firearms training staff with target set-up and equipment preparation with in-house ranges. Assists Tactical Unit with training and deployments.

  • Assists police personnel with equipment preparation and set-up for City and Police Department functions.

  • May be required to drive a vehicle, to include city-owned vehicles, to off-site training courses, meetings, and/or other city facilities

TYPE:  Full Time

SALARY:  Salary range is $16.69 to $19.04 per hour. DOQ with an excellent benefits and retirement package.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum Qualifications or Special Requirements

    Valid driver’s license with good driving record
    High school diploma or equivalent
    Must be able to successfully complete all City and Police department post-offer assessments and background investigations.

    Valid driver’s license with good driving record
    High school diploma or equivalent

Desired Qualifications

    Familiarity with handgun, rifle and shotgun functions, maintenance, and repair.
    Prior armorer and/or inventory control experience.
    Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
    Ability to maintain manual and computerized records and prepare reports.

    Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.

    Strong interpersonal relationship skills and participate fully in a team oriented environment.
    Interact with other employees and customers in a courteous and respectful manner.
    Project positive support of the Department and City organizations at all times.
    Ability to use office and computer equipment.

The Lenexa Police Department will automatically disqualify any individual who:

    Has been convicted of a felony or any offense that would be constituted as a felony within the State of Kansas or the United States
    Has been convicted of or took part in the commission of a Class “A” or “B” misdemeanor within the past five years or been convicted of any crime of a sexual nature
    Has been dishonorably discharged from any branch of the United States Armed Forces
    Has had his / her state certification as a Law Enforcement Officer denied / revoked or suspended
    Falsified or lied about any information requested on a questionnaire or application as part of the hiring process
    Exhibited any conduct or a pattern of conduct that would tend to disrupt, diminish, or otherwise jeopardize public trust in the law enforcement profession
    ​Tattoos: Any tattoos which are visible while in uniform are considered automatic disqualifiers. Tattoos which can be covered by the normal wear of jewelry or by Department issued​ sleeve may be allowed on a case-by-case basis. Tattoos of a non-medical nature on the face, neck head, fingers or hands will not be allowed. Tattoos of an obscene or offensive nature will not be allowed. ​

Drug/Alcohol Usage

    Has used marijuana within the past three years.
    Has used any other illegal drug within the last five years.
    Has an established pattern of prescription medication abuse.
    Has an established pattern of alcohol abuse.

Driving Record

    Has had a Driving Under the Influence conviction or diversion as an adult within the last five years or has shown a pattern of traffic law violations that indicate disrespect for traffic laws and disregard for public safety. Have three or more chargeable or at fault accidents within the past five years. Have had their driver’s license suspended or revoked within the past five years
    Does not possess a valid state driver’s license​​
