Police Officer, Maize Police Department

The City of Maize, located on the northwest edge of Wichita along K-96 highway in Sedgwick County, is currently accepting applications for the position of full time Police Officer. APPLICANTS MUST HOLD CURRENT CPOST CERTIFICATION. 

Officers currently work 10.5 hour shifts, but may be required to work some extended hours for special events or assignments. Hours/shifts will be assigned by the Chief of Police. Entry pay for this position will be based on applicants qualifications and experience.

TATTOO POLICY:  The Maize Police Department prohibits any visible tattoos while in uniform or court attire.  All tattoos must be able to be covered or concealed.

TYPE:  Full Time

SALARY:  Starting pay will be evaluated by experience and/or certifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

To be considered for this position, an applicant must:

  • Be CPOST Certified
  • Be able to pass an extensive background investigation, psychological exam, physical exam, and drug screen.
  • Not have any “Brady/ Giglio” information in personal or professional background that would impair ability to serve as a government witness. “Brady/ Giglio” information includes any conduct, acts or crimes involving dishonesty or false statements.

AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS

The Maize City Police Department maintains an efficient and effective workforce by selecting capable, qualified applicants through a fair, nondiscriminatory selection process. All elements of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated, and interpreted in a uniform manner. The Maize Police Department will evaluate any applicant who may have participated in or committed any crime or act in the automatic disqualifiers listed below. Please review each statement. If you answer yes to any of these statements, you will be automatically disqualified from the application process.

  • Convicted or expungement for/of any crime punishable by imprisonment in a federal or state prison whether committed as a juvenile or adult.
  • Less than honorable discharge from any branch of the United States Military.
  • You have committed a felony crime.
  • Convicted or granted diversion for driving under the influence of alcohol within the past 5 years.
  • Convicted or granted diversion for driving under the influence of drugs within the past 10 years.
  • Used any anabolic steroids in the past 2 years other than prescribed by a physician or purchased over the counter.
  • Any misdemeanor conviction for or expungement of domestic violence. Arrest and conviction pattern of related offenses.
  • Driver's license not valid; currently suspended, cancelled or revoked.
  • You cannot possess or obtain a valid Kansas driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
  • Failing to complete the application in its entirety including supplemental questions.  Non or vague answers including "will explain in person" will be considered incomplete answers and nullify your application.
