Chief of Police, Parsons Police Department

City of Parsons is seeking a dedicated, responsive and experienced individual for Chief of Police.  Community of approximately 10,000 residents located in southeast Kansas only one hour from Joplin and two hours from Kansas City, Wichita and Tulsa.

The Chief of Police reports to the City Manager and is responsible for overseeing a department of 27 sworn officers and 8 civilian staff with a budget of $2,186,300.  The Chief of Police plans and directs the activities of enforcement of criminal and traffic statutes and ordinances, accident investigations, crime prevention, patrol activities, and support of prosecution and non-criminal public safety.

TYPE:  Full Time

SALARY:  $58,000 - $68,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Successful candidate is required to have a Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university in a relevant field.  Completion of the Kansas Law Enforcement  Training Program at the KLETC, or the ability to obtain shortly following appointment, is required.

Four to six years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including three years of supervisory or management experience and/or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Experienced law enforcement professional who has the skills and capacity for collaborative leadership and team building, and is sensitive to diversity and emerging community needs.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Must have a demonstrated ability to develop and administer a budget and take a proactive leadership role in meeting budget goals.
Able to pass psychological exam.

Valid Kansas drivers license.

Must reside in the city limits of Parsons within six (6) months of employment.
