The Shawnee Mission School District is committed to promoting and fostering a safe environment in and around our schools. Our SMSD District Police Department was formed in 1972 as an accredited police force as authorized by Kansas law.
The Shawnee Mission Board of Education employs District Police Officers (DPO) and Campus Police Officers (CPO) to help keep schools safe across the district. Both DPOs and CPOs are certified commissioned law enforcement officers in the state of Kansas.
Officers receive special training to be a school-based police officers from the National Association of School Resource Officers. SMSD Police is also a participating agency in the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program which provides training to focus on de-escalation techniques when dealing with persons suffering from mental illness.
Hours: Full Time
Salary: SMSD competitive with competitive benefits package
Qualifications: Must have completed basic law enforcement training program recognized by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission before obtaining permanent status.
This position requires the use of a firearm for law enforcement duties; therefore, to be eligible for appointment to this position, candidates cannot have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C § 922 (d) (9) and (g) (9).
Must be a United States citizen, at least 21 years of age and must possess valid Driver’s License
