The Belle Plaine Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time SRO/D.A.R.E. Officer. Applicants must be 21 years of age, US citizen, High School diploma or GED equivalent, valid Kansas Driver’s License, no Felony or serious Misdemeanor arrests, and be of good moral character. Must be able to pass a written exam, oral interview, physical exam/drug screen and an extensive background check. Benefits include paid time off, employee and family health insurance currently paid by employer, holiday pay, etc. Uniforms and equipment provided. Starting pay for a certified officer is $16.00 per hour and depending on qualifications and experience could be higher. An SRO/DARE Officer works in the schools (to include the Elementary, Middle and High School) during the school year and attends home sporting events and is able to earn comp time. During the summer months school is not in session the SRO/DARE Officer works as a patrol officer performing duties as other officers within the department. This position requires working well with all school aged students and the school staff/administration. D.A.R.E Officer Training School is a requirement for anyone prior to teaching DARE.
