The City of Benton is hiring a full-time certified police officer. Benton, a small community positioned well for growth, is located in western Butler County along K254 Hwy approximately 9 miles east of Wichita, 5 miles north of the Andover and 12 miles west of El Dorado.
This position requires a self-motivated individual with the self-discipline to operate with limited supervision at times, as well as work with surrounding agencies. The ideal candidate should be effective in all forms of communication, possess outstanding public relations skills, and be well organized. This position enforces all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, performs patrol duties, enforces traffic laws, and investigates crimes and traffic crashes.
Applicants must be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and possess a valid driver’s license in good standing. No disqualifying criminal history of any kind, including no felony convictions or domestic violence convictions. Successful candidates must pass an oral interview, psychological examination, medical examination, and criminal history background check.
Salary: Full-time Certified $18.00/hr. Negotiable, depending on qualifications.
Shifts are flexible, but must be willing to work weekends, holidays and some overtime as needed. Must also reside within a 30 minute response time within six (6) months of starting employment.
