Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the Police Officer is r es ponsible for maintaining order, enforcing federal, state and local laws and ordinances, and protecting life and property within the City.
Essential Functions: The Police Officer patrols the City in patrol vehicles and on foot to prevent violence or in fraction of applicable laws; issues traffic summons, investigates accidents, apprehends and arrests suspects, and serves the court's legal process. The Police Officer searches for, collects, identifies evidence at crime scenes, examines / compiles information for cases, arrests violators of laws and ordinances, investigates and intervenes in domestic disputes, guards/transports prisoners, conducts interviews, answers citizen complaints and takes necessary corrective action, assists other law enforcement agencies, directs traffic as necessary, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: The employee is expected to have a high school diploma or equivalent, a current driver's license with a good driving record; applicants must be 21 years of age and have no criminal history. KLETC certification and prior law enforcement experience preferred.
*Applicants will be expected to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, physical exam, skills assessment test and agility testing.
**The employee is expected have obtained the necessary skills via on-the-job training with in six (6) months to one ( l) year of service.
***Residency Requirement: Employee must be able to respond within 15 minutes of being called to duty.
Salary Range: $15.60 - $24.24 per hour
