The City of Leon, Kansas, is accepting applications for the full-time position of City Chief of Police.

We are looking for a professional individual who has an interest in working for, and with, the residents of a small farm/ranch community who have pride in their small town.  

Motivated applicant should be community-oriented and possess excellent people and communication skills, both verbal and written.

City residence is preferred but not required. Residence within a 30-mile radius will be required within 60 days of employment.

Kansas KLETC certification is required.

The Chief of Police performs a variety of routine and complex police work and must be able to work in close concert with the Butler County Attorney and Sheriff’s Office.  This position also includes Code Enforcement officer. 

This employee must have excellent communication, organizational, reasoning, and public relations skills. The employee in this position enforces all federal, state, and local laws in accordance with departmental rules and regulations.  Duties include but are not limited to enforcing traffic laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, and providing public assistance, along with code enforcement. 

Applicant will work a wide range of duties which will require shift work along with possibly weekends and holidays.  Applicant must be able to act without direct supervision and exercise independent judgement.  Technology advanced individual preferred.  

Qualifications:  Must be 21 years of age or older; a U.S. citizen; have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, a high school diploma or equivalent; be in good physical condition; and have a good criminal record free of any serious traffic, misdemeanor, or felony convictions. Have no Brady/Giglio issues.  Application process includes, but not limited to, background check, phycological evaluation test, truth verification test, and interview board. 

Salary depends on qualifications/experience. The City Benefit package consists of health insurance, KPERS, vacation, paid holidays, and sick leave and take-home patrol car.
