The city of Medicine Lodge is seeking professional, highly motivated, problem-solving, and community-oriented individuals for full-time Police Officer positions.
Medicine Lodge is in south-central Kansas in the Red Hills region of the Great Plains, nestled on the edge of the Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway. As of the 2020 Census the population of Medicine Lodge was 1,781.
Medicine Lodge is Home to the annual Peace Treaty Festival, which features rodeos, a powwow, a historical melodrama, children’s activities, vendors and more. Every three years we also celebrate the Peace Treaty Pageant, a large-scale historical reenactment. 2024 is the next pageant year. Memorial Peace Park offers visitors unique green spaces, magnificent views and calm prairie. Massive development and improvement projects are bringing added opportunities to enjoy this 300+ acre park, such as a visitor center, hiking trails and primitive campsites.
Barber County North USD 254 provides public primary and secondary education with two schools in Medicine Lodge: Medicine Lodge Grade School (Grades Pre-K-6) and Medicine Lodge Junior-Senior High School (7-12).
The Medicine Lodge Police Department is a professional agency with strong community commitment. Currently led by Interim Police Chief Josh Small the department is energized and adding new tools and technologies to modernize our law enforcement responses. These include MDT’s, LPR’s (License Plate Readers), and within the next year a newly renovated police department, purpose built with safety and the community in mind. MLPD is open to those who may want to start a career here with the intention to transition to another agency, or those who would love to stay and grow with us.
Officers will enjoy state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, grooming standards that allow for beards and visible tattoos, and no residency requirement (must reside in Barber County or an adjacent county). Starting pay is commensurate with experience and expected to continue to increase.
