The City of Saint Marys, Kansas, is a rapidly growing community of approximately 4,000, located in SE Pottawatomie County, approximately 30 miles west of Topeka, and is one of the fastest growing areas in the State of Kansas. Our Police Department believes in and practices honor, integrity, professionalism, and a community-based policing philosophy. Our Department maintains law and order but also preserves and respects the rights of our citizens. The Saint Marys Police Department comprises the Chief of Police, a Captain, a Sergeant, three patrol officers, and several part-time officers. We are looking to fill a recent vacancy with a proactive, highly qualified, professional, ethical, and community-oriented Full-Time Police Officer.
Specific duties will vary according to the assigned shift as designated by the Chief of Police, including rotation to other shifts as the Chief of Police deems appropriate or necessary. Successful performers are capable and willing to make decisions that are consistently in line with the Department’s mission, goals, and objectives. The employee in this position enforces all state and local laws and ordinances. Making arrests, issuing traffic citations, and investigating crimes and accidents are the primary responsibilities of this position. In addition, performing patrol duties and providing citizen assistance is expected. Therefore, this employee should possess excellent communication and public relation skills.
Hours: Full-time. Officers work rotating 10 hour shifts with three-day weekends off per 40 hour work week.
Salary/Benefits:

Generally non-certified rate through the academy starts at $15.00/hour, raise after successful completion. Certified lateral salary is based upon qualifications. Both are eligible for overtime and holiday pay.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be 21 years of age or older.

Must be a United States Citizen.

Must have a valid Kansas driver's license with a good driving record.

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must be in good physical condition.

No Brady/Giglio Violations

Must not have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence, serious traffic or any felony or its equivalent under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Must have above average written and oral communication skills.
An extensive background investigation including previous employment history, references (both listed and unlisted), criminal history, previous history with any state POST certifying authority, and driving record will be conducted in addition to a psychological examination, physical examination, and drug screen.
