The City of Goodland Police Department is currently accepting applications for highly motivated individuals to fulfill the position of Patrol Officer I or II. Goodland is a community of approximately 4,700 covering 4.371 sq. miles, approximately 17 miles from the Colorado border. We are a progressive law enforcement agency that employs nine (9) full-time sworn police officers including a canine officer, one (1) full-time civilian employee and two (2) part-time police officers. Patrol duties include enforcing federal, state and local laws and ordinances, investigating crimes and accidents, and providing public assistance. We provide a competitive city paid benefits package, competitive pay (DOE), a take home patrol car, full duty gear including boots (after one year), progressive training, and a family atmosphere. Our goal is to model professionalism while fulfilling our department mission of making "Goodland a safe and comfortable place to live while adhering to our core values of honor, integrity, and accountability”. Starting pay with no experience or certifications is $17.00 per hour. Pay increases to $17.98 after completion of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Academy. Pay will again increase to $18.34 after completion of the Field Training program. Certified officers may start at a higher wage depending on experience.

Applicants must:

  • Be U.S. Citizens that are at least 21 years of age at the time of hire
  • Possess a High School diploma or GED.
  • Have the ability to obtain a valid Kansas Driver’s License
  • Have no felony convictions, diversions or expunged records
  • No convictions for domestic battery
  • Possess good moral character.

Applicants will be required to pass a written test, physical agility test, and an oral interview board. Final candidates will be required to pass an extensive background investigation. A conditional job offer requires the applicant pass a psychological evaluation, physical and drug screen.
