Police Officer/EMT, Caney Police and EMS Department

Caney Police and EMS Department is looking for a qualified individual to join our team.  Caney is a progressive city located in southeast Kansas on US HWY 75, just one hour north of Tulsa, Oklahoma.  We are surrounded by vast amounts of public hunting and lakes, have an outstanding school system, and just an overall great town to raise kids in. Our department is unique and is the only agency left in Kansas still providing Police and EMS services to our community. We currently employ 6 full time officer/emts, four full time dispatcher/emts, a part time animal control officer, and various part time positions as needed.

Patrol officer/EMTs work 12 hours shifts and have every other Friday through Sunday off. Duties and responsibilities include enforcing all federal, state and local laws and ordinances; taking calls for service; patrolling business districts and residential neighbourhoods to deter and detect crime; investigating complaints; citing and/or arresting law violators; following up on pending reports and cases; protecting person(s) or property; and assisting with EMS calls.  When not responding to calls for service, department members are expected to use self-directed work time in an efficient manner by self-initiating work on those tasks identified by supervisory personnel as priorities for this job position.

Minimum Qualifications:  Must be a U.S. citizen.  Must be 21 years of age.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Must have attained a High School or GED Diploma and be able to pass all requirements to successfully attend and complete the KLETC.  The applicant must pass criminal history backgrounds, oral interviews, physical, psychological and written exams.  Applicants with any felonies, serious misdemeanours, or any Brady/ Giglio issues need not apply.  KLETC certification and/or EMT certification are desired, but not required

Take home (assigned car) program, all uniforms and equipment provided including duty firearms. Excellent benefit package including KPERS, BC/BS health insurance (single), vacation, holiday pay, sick leave.  Salary range is $14.50-$18.00hr/DoQ.
