Position Requirements –

Residence: Employee must reside within 15 mile radius of Marquette City Limits.

Experience: At least five years of law enforcement experience is preferred. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well, immediately upon employment. Graduate of KLETC program is required. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing per city policy. This position requires a valid Kansas driver’s license.  Must pass a Psych Evaluation, Background investigation and a Physical.

Education: A high school diploma is required, with a college degree preferred. Technical Skills: A basic knowledge of technology and departmental equipment is required. This employee must be able to operate vehicles, firearms, and other equipment in safe manner. The ability to understand and anticipate problems to follow department polices, and to interpret written instructions and manuals is required.

Problem Solving: Constant independent problem solving is involved in this position. This employee may encounter problems and dangerous situations occasionally and superior problem solving skills are essential.

Decision-Making: Independent decision making is involved in this position. This employee makes split second decisions and must be able to thoroughly understand potentially dangerous situations. All decisions must be made with the goal of keeping Marquette’s residents safe at all times.

Supervision: This employee works under the supervision of the City Administrator. This employee may be assigned to supervise others on specific projects.

Financial Accountability: This employee is responsible for safe operation of department equipment. This employee participates in the annual budget process.

Personal Relations: Daily contact with the general public, co-workers and supervisory personnel is expected as well as occasional contact with members of the city council.

Working Conditions: Some adverse working conditions exist within this position. Exposures to hazardous chemicals, excessive noise, dangerous situations, and all types of weather conditions are expected.

Physical Requirements: Manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy loads, extensive walking and the ability to operate departmental equipment is required daily in this position.

Salary will be commensurate based on experience.
