2023 Session Starts January 9

01/07/2023 8:06 PM | Ed Klumpp (Administrator)

The 2023 Kansas Legislative Session starts on January 9, 2023. The KPOA has several topics we will be working on, including:

  • Increasing penalties for persons committing new person felonies with a firearm while already prohibited from possession of a firearm.
  • Increasing penalties for more serious violations of interfering with a law enforcement officer, such as fleeing from an officer attempting to detain them.
  • Clarifying an agency head may designate another person to make the request of a court for a court order of infectious disease testing of a person exposing an officer to body fluids.
  • Clarifying the use of tracking devices or data from tracking devices against a person protected by a court order is a violation.
  • Expansion of Work Comp to cover officers suffering from PTSD.
  • Limiting data a private venue may collect from off-duty officers attending an event while armed.
  • Opposing the legalization of medical marijuana.
  • Adding local KP&F agencies to the DROP program.
  • COLA for current KP&F or KPERS retirees.
Other topics will be added to this list as bills are introduced.
