Fundamentals of Social Media for Law Enforcement

This one-day (8 hour) course was developed to enhance the beginning level learners’ awareness of  social media and how the elements can be used in investigations. Students are guided through  discussions on topics such as: being aware of their digital footprint and how to manage their law  enforcement attributes while online. The discussion then turns to the culture of social media and the  best practices of how to utilize some of the content in investigations.

Course Objectives:

  • Make students aware of the risks of being  exposed as law enforcement while online.
  • Utilize Boolean search terms and advanced internet search methods to  increase the success of online searches.
  • Get experience with FREE, easy-to-use tools designed to assist with image  analysis, open source searching and making sense of complicated social  media returns from specific providers.
