Upon completion of this 2-day hands-on training program, participants will learn to use camcorders, DSLRs, and mirrorless cameras and associated technology to document crime scenes, traffic accidents, disaster responses, search warrants, and other types of evidence.

Students will learn the basics of video camera operation, choosing the best cameras and other gear for crime scene recording, and how to record evidence-grade video using the Elements of Video Continuity, Numerous hands-on exercises allow students to record crime scene evidence indoors, in vehicles, outdoors, and in low-light and no-light situations.

The use of Alternate Light Sources and barrier filters will familiarize students with recording trace evidence of street drugs and human serology. Students will learn how to use cameras in low-light and no-light situations. Students will learn how to use a variety of auxiliary lights for both indoor and outdoor crime scenes. A segment on audio will cover the use of external microphones for field interviews, custodial interrogations, statements from witnesses and victims, and how to eliminate audio from a camera’s on-board microphone
