The Midwest HIDTA is teaming with Thermo Fisher Scientific to provide training on fentanyl, opioids, methamphetamine and other stimulants. This one-day training will cover the history and chemistry of fentanyl and other synthetic drugs, information on the clandestine manufacture of these drugs, current drug trends, officer safety, the use of proper personnel protective equipment, evidence handling and Naloxone/Narcan. Lunch will be provided at no charge to all attendees.

Instructor: Senior Special Agent in Charge Gil Van Attenhoven (Ret.) worked for the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement and has 29+ years of law enforcement experience. Gil currently provides drug training courses for several Counterdrug programs, including the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy, the Midwest Counterdrug Training Center and the COPS Office. Gil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento. He is the past president of the CA Narcotic Officers’ Association (CNOA) and a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 209
