Participants will gain critical insights into identifying the signs of a potential edged weapon assault and learn techniques to respond appropriately if attacked.

Key components of the training include:

Distance Management and Threat Assessment: Understanding how to maintain safe space upon initial contact and evaluate potential threats.

Close-Quarter Defense Techniques: Developing the ability to respond effectively to knife assaults in close-range encounters, both standing and on the ground.

Participants will focus on mastering the following core skills:

1. Weapon Avoidance: Identifying potential threats and utilizing effective distance management strategies to prevent attacks.

2. Weapon Control: Applying techniques to mitigate and neutralize the threat when confronted with an edged weapon.

3. Disengagement and Transition: Executing safe disengagement and transitioning to primary weapon systems when necessary.

This comprehensive training prepares officers for real-world scenarios, enhancing their safety and effectiveness in high-risk situations.

Students need to bring their duty belt and a training gun. If a training gun is not available, a limited number will be provided. Please contact Amy Osburn at arosburn@kletc.org if a gun is needed or if there are additional questions.
