The City of Hill City, Kansas seeks a dedicated, energetic individual who demonstrates a high level of integrity, to serve as a police officer for The Hill City Police Department.  The department presently operates with four full-time sworn officers, and 2 part time officers, who serve the city’s approximately 1,500 residents.

The City of Hill City is the county seat, located at the intersection of Highway 283 and Highway 24, in Graham County Kansas.  Hill City is approximately 45 minutes north and west of Hays, Kansas (58 miles) and approximately 4 hrs. and 30 minutes east of Denver, Colorado. (299 Miles)

The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work as a team.  The ideal candidate will understand the challenges associated with law enforcement in a western Kansas rural community.  The ideal candidate is willing to engage with the community, and work effectively with others to continuously improve community relations. 

Essential Job Requirements:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Possess or able to obtain a valid Kansas Driver’s License. 

Be a U.S. Citizen, 21 years of age or older by the date of hire.

Capable of gaining a certification through The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.

Successfully pass a background investigation, a drug test, psychological examination, physical examination, and be able to legally carry a handgun.

Be willing to participate in a discussion with an interview board.

To reside within The Hill City Limits after a reasonable amount of time after date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college.
  • Current fulltime law enforcement officer certificate from The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, or the ability to pass a reciprocity class.

Pay and Benefits:

  • Pay is dependent on qualifications.  Benefits package includes: BCBS health insurance, KPERS retirement, paid sick/ vacation time, overtime, call outs/ stand by, all uniforms/ equipment provided, plus a take home vehicle.
