The City of Conway Springs is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. 

Under the supervision of the Mayor and / or City Council (while in session), the Chief of Police  supervises and coordinates the activities of the employees of the police department. The Chief  recommends hiring, firing, and is responsible for disciplining subordinate employees. As  department head, the Chief is also in charge of budgeting and purchasing for the police  department. The Chief reviews cases and creates the work schedules. In addition, the Chief  maintains order, enforces laws, ordinances, codes, and protects life and property within city limits.  An employee in this position has a substantial amount of public contact and is expected to act with  firm and respectful decorum. This is a confidential position. The Chief of Police is a non-exempt  position under FLSA. 

Minimum Requirements: 

• 4-6 years’ experience in a similar or related field 

• Successful completion of Kansas Law Enforcement Training Program at the KLETAC • Valid Kansas Driver’s License 

• Associate’s degree in a relevant field 

• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, and understand and  practice current law enforcement techniques 

• Leadership and accountability 

• The ability to communicate in a professional manner by means of verbal/written/electronic  formats 

• Ability to pass and maintain all physical activities and requirements of the KLETC is required Benefits:
