Shawnee keeps the small town feeling with big city opportunities.  Shawnee offers numerous special assignment positions for officers that include the following: K-9 officer, Detective, Criminal Interdiction Officer, Narcotics Officer, Warrant Officer, Traffic Safety Officer, Motorcycle Officer, Bicycle Patrol, School Resource Officer, Community Outreach Officer, Tactical Team Officer and promotional opportunities. 

Recruit Police Officer - $56,430 (Starting, no lateral experience)
1 Year Police Officer - $60,380 - $61,509
2 Year Police Officer - $63,701 - $65,512
3 Year Police Officer - $67,205 - $70,098
4 Year Police Officer - $69,893 - $73,954
5 Year Police Officer - $72,689 - $78,021
6 Year Police Officer - $75,597 - $82,312
7 Year Police Officer - $78,243 - $86,445
8 Year Police Officer - $80,981 - $90,766

Commissioned Officers are eligible to receive up to 5 years of credit in pay for completed service plus a $2,000 bonus.  

Officers work 9-hour shifts with one hour dedicated to training and fitness programs.  This gives officers 26 additional days off per year versus traditional 8-hour shifts. Shawnee offers parental leave, tuition reimbursement, 457 match, a wellness program and much more. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent

  • Minimum 21 years of age by date of employment

  • U.S. Citizen 

  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record

Note: Kansas residency not required.
