Wellington, the County Seat for Sumner County, Kansas, is known as the “Wheat Capital of the World”, located in south central Kansas approximately 20 miles north of the Kansas/Oklahoma borders. Wellington is the largest city in Sumner County.

Most of all, you must be committed to public service, which includes participating in community service events/activities, assisting our citizens, and investigating/solving crimes.
Salary Range: $19.31-$28.50 DOQ

* $2500-non-certified--($1250 at time of hiring, $1250 KLECT graduation)
* $5000 certified—($2500 at time of hiring, $2500 completion of FTO)

Qualifications: Minimum qualification includes, high school or GED diploma, 21 years of age at time of appointment, no Felony, domestic violence or serious misdemeanor offenses. Selection process includes a written exam, oral board interview, psychological examination, Health/drug screen, physical agility test, and background investigation. Twenty-minute response time for call backs. Current certified law enforcement officer preferred, but not required.
