The City of Burlington is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. 

Under the supervision of the Mayor and I or City Council (while in session), the Chief of Police supervises and coordinates the activities of the employees of the police department. The Chief recommends hiring, and firing and is responsible for disciplining subordinate employees. As department head, the Chief is also in charge of budgeting and purchasing for the police department. The Chief reviews cases and creates the work schedules. In addition, the Chief maintains order, enforces laws, ordinances, and codes, and protects life and property within city limits. The Chief of Police has a lot of public interaction and is expected to act with firm and respectful decorum. This is a highly confidential position. The Chief of Police is a non-exempt position under FLSA. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Ten or more years of law enforcement experience

  • Successful completion of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Program at the KLETAC 

  • Valid Kansas Driver's License  

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, and understand and practice current law enforcement techniques 

  • Leadership and accountability

  • The ability to communicate professionally through verbal/written/electronic formats

  • Ability to pass and maintain all physical activities and requirements of the KLETC is required

The pay structure range is: $28.47 - $48.13 per hour based on experience and qualifications, The position is open until filled.
