The City of WaKeeney, Kansas is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.  This is a full-time position which comes with a generous individual benefits package which includes Medical, Dental, Vision, Vacation, Sick Leave, Holiday pay and all equipment is provided to you with the exception of footwear.

SALARY:

Salary is D/O/E and qualifications, negotiable for certified Kansas P.O.S.T. certification.  A certified Police Officer will receive a sign on bonus after 90days then after 180 days of up to $5000.00.  Starting pay for non-certified is $19.00 per hour with the condition of attending and successful completion of the K.L.E.T.C. academy.  A non-certified employee will be paid while their attendance at the academy which includes trave time to and from the academy.  The Employee must pass all curriculum to continue employment with the City of WaKeeney.  If you are sent to the academy, a two-year contract with the City of WaKeeney must be signed prior to attendance at K.L.E.T.C. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a United States Citizen, 21 years of age by the time of hire.  High School Diploma or GED, satisfy all requirements as set forth in K.S.A. 74-5606, have or be able to obtain a Kansas Driver’s License, must pass an extensive background check, interview board, psychological test and drug screen.  No charges or convictions of domestic violence, no Felony conviction(s).  Applicant must be willing to work shift work with weekends and holidays.  The WaKeeney Police Department works a 12-hour work day schedule that allows the employee to have two weekends a month off, giving the Officer three days off in a row and working approximately 15 day per month.  We would prefer the employee live in the City of WaKeeney so that we can provide the employee a take home vehicle.
