The City of Greensburg is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a vacancy for a full-time law enforcement officer. Our department is looking for a professional, motivated person with strong moral character, who has an interest in protecting and serving the residents of a small community. Applicants should possess a community-oriented policing mindset and desire, and should possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. 

Greensburg is a small community consisting of approximately 800 residents. The Greensburg Police Department consists of the full-time Chief of Police, one Full time Police Officer position and two part-time Police Officer positions. 

Responsibilities: 

  •  Enforce all city codes, ordinances, traffic laws, state laws, and federal laws. 

  •  Investigates and prepares reports on traffic collisions and criminal offenses. 

  •  Make arrests in accordance with state laws and proper apprehension techniques. 

  •  Provide emergency aid as needed, including responding to medical and fire calls.   

  •  Complete appropriate reports, forms, logs, and other paperwork as required. 

  •  Operates a patrol vehicle for the prevention of crime.

  •  Responds to calls for service.

  •  Testify in court when subpoenaed. 

  •  Serves and protects the citizens of Greensburg, giving directions and information to the public. 

  •  Participates in safety conferences and programs.

  •  Participates in civic and professional activities and meetings.

  • Animal Control Duties

This work schedule will require weekends, holidays, shift work, some overtime, and court appearances.  

Salary: $16.62-$28.32 an hour, depending on experience and qualifications. 

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Driver’s License, possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and have no Felony, serious misdemeanor, or Domestic Violence convictions. Applicants must pass an extensive background investigation and an oral interview. Applicants must be able to legally possess a firearm to carry out duties needed to perform this job. A conditional job offer requires a drug test, psychological examination, and physical examination. 

Current KLETC Certification is required.
