We are currently hiring for a Deputy position with the Barber County Sheriff Office.

Job Overview for Deputy: Primary Responsibilities:

  • Patrolling: Regularly patrol assigned areas (roads, neighborhoods, public spaces) to monitor activity and prevent criminal behavior.
  • Responding to Emergencies: Respond to 911 calls and other emergency situations, including accidents, disturbances, and crimes in progress.
  • Investigation: Gather evidence, interview witnesses and suspects, and investigate crimes like theft, assault, and vandalism.
  • Arresting Suspects: Arrest individuals suspected of committing crimes, ensuring that procedures are followed according to legal protocols.
  • Court Testimony: Present evidence and testify in court to support criminal cases and the prosecution of suspects.
  • Traffic Enforcement: Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, and investigate accidents.
  • Community Engagement: Build relationships with local community members, offering support and collaborating with residents to address public safety concerns.
  • Search and Rescue: Assist in search and rescue operations for missing persons or during natural disasters.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Physical Fitness: Deputies need to be in good physical condition to handle the demands of the job, including apprehending suspects and managing stressful situations.
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively with the public, colleagues, and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to assess situations quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Law: Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws, as well as law enforcement techniques and procedures.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Deputies often work in community-oriented roles, so being able to interact with diverse groups of people is essential.

Education and Training:

  • Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED.
  • Law Enforcement Academy: Completion of a Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center program, including physical training, firearms, and law enforcement techniques.
  • Ongoing Training: Deputies are often required to complete continued education and training throughout their careers to stay up to date with law enforcement practices.

Pay is depending on experience $18.00-$20.00
