The Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for a Corrections Officer to join our dedicated team. This position is responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and welfare of inmates and staff within the Wabaunsee County Detention Center, while upholding professional standards of conduct and contributing to the integrity of our department.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise inmate activities and maintain order within the detention facility
- Conduct cell checks, facility searches, and security rounds
- Process inmate intake and releases
- Escort inmates to court appearances and medical appointments
- Monitor surveillance equipment and respond to emergencies
- Maintain detailed logs and prepare incident reports
- Enforce rules and regulations firmly and fairly
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Kansas driver’s license
- No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and night shifts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
Starting at $17.50, higher hourly rate possible depending on experience
