The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has a rare opportunity available; we currently are accepting applications for highly motivated individuals to fill a Deputy Sheriff position. Scott County has a population of approximately 5150, covering 718 sq. miles. Scott City is conveniently situated at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 83 and K-96.  We are 35 miles north of Garden City, 90 miles northwest of Dodge City, and 110 miles southwest of Hays.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Must be 21 years of age or older. 

• Have a valid Kansas Driver’s License 

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent 

• Must be physically and mentally able to perform law enforcement duties 

• Must not have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence, certain misdemeanor crimes, or any felony. You must not have any Brady-Giglio issues, and possess good moral character

We are a progressive law enforcement agency that employs (5) full-time sworn Sheriff Deputies, (5) Correction Officers, (1) part-time civilian employee. There are many opportunities within the department for specialized training, firearm instructors, defensive tactic instructors, less lethal instructors, Taser Instructor, field training officer(s), and many others. 

Patrol duties include enforcing federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, investigating crimes and accidents, and providing public assistance. 

Final candidates will be required to pass an extensive background investigation. A conditional job offer requires applicants to pass a psychological evaluation and physical and drug screen.
