The City of Goddard, Kansas (pop. 6,300) is presently accepting applications for a full-time Police Service Officer II. Goddard is a vibrant community, growing and accessible, the destination for a family oriented, active lifestyle. Goddard was once named the fastest growing community in Kansas by the US Census Bureau and is now poised for more significant growth as the fastest growing city in Sedgwick County.
The Goddard Police Department provides professional services to provide for the safety and security of our citizens. This agency is staffed with 14 full-time commissioned Law Enforcement Officers and 2 civilian Police Service Officer’s (PSO’s). Employees respond to requests from citizens needing assistance and act as necessary for the protection of life and property. PSO-II work involves an element of danger and requires the use of judgment, knowledge and skills in law enforcement procedures and policies. Responsibilities also include preliminary investigation at crime scenes and detailed documentation.
Essential Functions:
• Patrol areas of the city either by patrol vehicle, or on foot to prevent and discover animal control violations, enforce parking regulations and clear traffic hazards.
• Captures animals running at large; removes and disposes of dead animals.
• Answer calls and complaints received by radio, telephone, or in person involving animal control violations, vicious and or injured animals, parking complaints, abandoned vehicles and or traffic hazards.
• Transports unclaimed or seized animals to the animal shelter; transports sick and injured animals to a veterinary clinic or animal shelter.
• Investigates and provides preliminary recommendations on animal bite and cruelty cases. • Issues warnings, citations and summons to violators of animal control and parking violations. • Attends to the kennels by providing food and water to animals, while ensuring kennels are clean. • Use a tranquilizer gun or firearm to contain or destroy animals as needed.
• Advises the public regarding compliance with health regulations and rabies protection. • Maintains a log of daily activities to include type of activity or call, time spent on each activity or call, and action taken on each incident.
• Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, and locate witnesses.
• Appear in court to present evidence and/or testify as required.
• Conduct safety-related community awareness and public relations work.
• May administer basic first aid.
• Provides assistance to stranded motorists and assists with traffic control duties. • Interview people with complaints or inquiries and make proper disposition or direct them to proper authorities.
• May assist with urinalysis and breath alcohol test of individuals appearing in municipal court.
• May search, photograph and fingerprint prisoners.
• Maintain records, prepare detailed reports and perform other clerical duties. • Locate, process, identify, collect, and preserve physical evidence.
• Attend classes, conferences, or seminars as assigned, deemed necessary to the best interests of the city and department.
• Attend training to retain certifications.
• May be required to assist with a variety of motor vehicle accidents.
• Perform related work as required and directed.

• Candidates recommended for hire will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, polygraph or CVSA, psychological, and physical exams.
