This position is responsible for the preservation of peace, control crime and enforce all state and federal laws and regulations. Maintains security and order within the Reno County Jail to ensure safety of all persons and property. Performs a variety of recurring duties according to standardized departmental policies and procedures, selects applicable methods to take authoritative action in response to situational demands. Receives indirect supervision and refers to supervisor for unusual matters.
Personal conduct and behavior (on duty as well as off) must be such that it does not bring disrepute or unnecessarily endanger the public’s trust or confidence in the agency or its members.

Salary Range: $24.28 - $25.31per hour DOQ
Position Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen or non-US citizen able to work in the United States.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. (or obtain it within a reasonable period.)
- Candidates in this position may be required to pass a background investigation in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, or policies:
- Record of criminal activity and criminal history using a named-based record check before employment is offered or before job duties are assigned that might expose them to KCJIS-sensitive information.
- Record of criminal activity and criminal history using a fingerprint-based check within 30 days after initial employment or assignment and before unconditional employment is offered.
- Responsible for obtaining and maintaining all certification requirements relative to the position.
Certifications / Licenses:
- Possession of a valid Kansas driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Complete required annual training by the state of Kansas.
- Qualify with handguns and rifles.
