Chief of Police, Wamego Police Department

08/27/2025 8:52 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

The City of Wamego, Kansas, is accepting applications for the position of Police Chief.

Wamego is a vibrant, family-friendly community with a population of just over 4,900, situated  12 miles east of Manhattan and 9 miles north of I-70. Our community takes pride in its strong  sense of connection, where neighbors look out for one another and public service is deeply  respected. That spirit comes alive through our many events, from the Celebrate Freedom  (Boomtown) 4th of July celebration, which draws more than 40,000 visitors to town, to the  rapidly growing Tulip Festival each spring and the Oz-themed OztoberFest in the fall. Along  with smaller gatherings throughout the year, these traditions complement our spirited schools,  respected local hospital, and thriving downtown—making Wamego the kind of environment  where individuals and families alike can truly thrive.

We are seeking a leader with proven experience in law enforcement who is ready to bring both  professional expertise and community commitment to the role. The ideal candidate will provide  clear, confident leadership that guides the department forward while modeling integrity,  professionalism, and accountability in every aspect of the job. This individual will be  approachable and accessible, willing to connect with residents, schools, businesses, and civic  groups, and will embrace community policing strategies that prioritize trust, transparency, and  collaboration. The next Police Chief of Wamego will balance strong administrative oversight  with a hands-on approach, stepping in to support patrol operations when needed, while also  seeking innovative ways to enhance safety and well-being. Above all, we are looking for  someone who will not only manage the department effectively but also become an active, visible  part of our community life—attending local events, fostering partnerships, and ensuring that  public safety remains a shared priority.
