The Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a Full-Time Deputy position.
Entry level wage is $20.31, with an increase available at the end of a successful first 6 months of employment.
Experience is a plus and will be considered accordingly.

JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: Under supervision, the deputy sheriff is responsible for protecting and serving the citizens of Pawnee County by performing routine patrol duties, investigating crimes, and working accidents. Responding to emergency calls is required. This employee should possess strong communication and public relations skills. Deputy I position requires completion of the Kansas law Enforcement Training Center.
DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES: Performs routine patrol duties; performs security checks of business and residential property; enforces all federal, state and local laws and resolutions; serves civil court processes, warrants and other legal documents; answers incoming telephone calls; fields questions, concerns and complaints from the general public; responds to emergency calls; makes arrests and issues traffic citations; enforces all traffic regulations, and performs traffic control duties; performs weather watch assignments, assists other emergency response agencies; investigates crimes and accidents, and completes reports of incidents; maintains and updates records; contacts witnesses, victims and suspects; transports prisoners; testifies in court as needed; performs limited photography; maintains departmental equipment including breath analysis machines and patrol vehicles; performs special assignments as assigned; writes a log of activities and case reports; performs other duties as assigned. The Deputy Sheriff will possess outstanding personal conduct and morals. This includes respectful representation of oneself in public, and on personal social media accounts.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is inside and outside; involves prolonged sitting and may cause eye strain; involves contact with dangerous persons, exposure to hazardous material, narcotics, noise, and noxious odors. Subject to call out and shift work, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMAND: Work is strenuous, involves lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing and prolonged standing.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED is required; a technical degree or college credit is preferred; must be a certified law enforcement officer; must have a valid Kansas driver’s license; some knowledge of computers and must have strong communication skills.
