The Human Trafficking Intelligence Intern will support the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office Special Investigations Division and the Kaw Valley Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force (KVAHTTF). This internship is designed to provide practical experience in intelligence analysis, criminal research, and data collection related to human trafficking investigations. Interns will work under the supervision of an investigator to gain exposure to the intelligence cycle, interagency collaboration, and the application of data to law enforcement operations.
This position is funded by the OVC FY 2023 Enhanced Collaborative Model (ECM) Task Force to Combat Human Trafficking cooperative agreement through October 2026, with the potential for continued funding under the same or a similar grant. Depending on funding and performance, this internship may provide opportunities for transition into full-time employment.
Primary duties include:
- Assist in the collection, collation, evaluation, analysis, and product development of intelligence related to human trafficking crimes within the KVHTTF service area.
- Utilize OSINT, GEOINT, and related INTS and research to identify emerging patterns and trends in local and statewide trafficking activity.
- Assist with compiling, entering, and maintaining data required for federal grant reporting and program compliance.
- Help prepare reports, intelligence summaries, presentations, and other products used for task force meetings and operational briefings.
- Observe and support intelligence analysts and investigators during task force operations, meetings, and interagency collaborations.
- Maintain confidentiality of case information, victims, and investigative details, ensuring all work adheres to applicable policies and privacy requirements.
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities related to intelligence analysis and human trafficking prevention.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support task force operations and the internship’s educational goals.
Salary: $20 to $25 hr DOQ
Minimum Requirements for Position:
- Enrollment in an accredited college or university program in criminal justice, intelligence analysis, homeland security, data science, psychology, political science, economics, or a closely related field.

- Recent graduates from such programs will also be considered.
- Qualified candidates seeking part-time work in this field may also be considered, even if not currently enrolled.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office during scheduled hours (flexibility is available to accommodate academic commitments)
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion at all times.
- Strong oral communication skills.
