The Goddard Police Department is accepting applications to fill openings for Police Officer. With an allotted agency size of 15 commissioned personnel, we seek to hire individuals who exemplify the highest standards of integrity, efficiency, and professionalism. Candidates must be well-organized, self-motivated, and punctual. Candidates must have a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, strong work ethic, adaptive personality, and capability to function efficiently under stressful situations. With a population 7,200, Goddard is a rapidly growing community with a small-town atmosphere. The Goddard Police Department is well respected by city staff and heavily supported by our elected officials. Under supervision of a Sergeant, Lieutenant and Chief, officers perform the following essential functions, but not limited to:

Essential Functions

  • Patrol areas of the city either by patrol vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crime, and to enforce motor vehicle and parking regulations and correct traffic hazards.
  • Answer calls and complaints received by radio, telephone, or in person involving emergency, disorder, and crime.
  • Interview people with complaints or inquiries, take statements and tend to proper disposition of the information or direct them to proper authorities.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, and locate witnesses.
  • Make arrests and/or take prisoners to jail.
  • Appear in court to present evidence and/or testify as required.
  • Conduct police-related community awareness and public relations work.
  • May administer basic first aid.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations, locate witnesses, affect arrests.
  • Interview people with complaints or inquiries and make proper disposition or direct them to proper authorities.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of major crimes or felonies.
  • Serve criminal processes including warrants and subpoenas, testify as a witness in court.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports and perform other clerical duties.
  • Locate, process, identify, collect, and preserve physical evidence.
  • Ensure prisoners are charged and transported to proper facilities.
  • Process crime scenes for latent fingerprint and palm print impressions and photograph all pertinent evidence.
  • Attend classes, conferences, or seminars as assigned, deemed necessary to the best interests of the city and department.
  • Attend training to retain certifications.
  • Ensure 40 hours of in-service training is completed each year of employment.
  • Perform related work as required and directed.
  • The examples of work performed are not intended to be all-inclusive. The City of Goddard reserves the right to assign additional duties as needed.

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT

Goddard Police Department members should live within a 30-minute drive to Goddard.

Pay starts at $59,350 annually. Commissioned experience can be taken into consideration for increased pay rate at the discretion of the Chief of Police. Candidates recommended for hire will be required to successfully complete a fitness assessment, pre-employment drug screen, deception testing, psychological exam, and physical exam.
