The South Hutchinson Police Department is currently accepting applications for a full-time Police Officer position. We are seeking individuals who are driven, community-focused, and committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. As a full-service law enforcement agency, the South Hutchinson Police Department operates 24/7 and is staffed by a close-knit team of seven full-time officers, including administrative personnel. Our department is deeply rooted in community engagement and proactive policing.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Enforcing federal, state, and local laws and ordinances

  • Patrolling residential and commercial areas

  • Conducting arrests and criminal investigations

  • Collecting and processing evidence at crime scenes

  • Testifying in court proceedings

  • Responding to domestic incidents and child welfare cases

  • Preparing detailed reports and maintaining accurate records

  • Managing traffic control and issuing citations

  • Operating communication equipment and coordinating with dispatch

  • Administering first aid at accident scenes

  • Engaging with community members and addressing public concerns

  • Investigating traffic collisions and completing reports

  • Performing building checks and animal control duties

  • Maintaining department-issued equipment

  • Executing warrant service

Minimum Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age at time of appointment

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid Kansas driver’s license

  • No felony, domestic violence, or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions

  • Strong moral character and commitment to public service

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Kansas CPOST certification

  • Prior full-time law enforcement experience

Applicants without certification or experience will still be considered and, if selected, must successfully complete training at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.

Hiring Process:

  • Application and resume submission

  • Written examination

  • Oral interview board

  • Background investigation

  • Conditional offer followed by psychological evaluation, drug screening, and physical exam
