Under the supervision of the Chief of Police, the Officer protects the life and property, and preserves order for the citizens of Mulberry. This position enforces all federal, state and local laws and ordinances, performs patrol duties, enforces traffic laws, and investigates crimes and accidents. This employee should possess excellent communication, public relation, and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Enforces all federal, state and local laws and ordinances, Patrols the streets, Investigates suspicious conditions and complaints, searches for, collects and identifies evidence found at crime scenes, arrest or give Notice to Appear to individuals who violate laws and ordinances, prepare and give testimony and appears in court as the arresting officer, investigates and intervene in domestic disputes, direct traffic and issue citations for traffic law violations, operates radio transmittal equipment and communicates with dispatcher, answers citizens complaints and take necessary corrective action, performs animal control duties and investigates complaints within the City, prepares and completes reports, advise public about laws, ordinances and provide general information, operates all department equipment and firearms with extreme proficiency, assists other departments as the need arises, performs other duties as deemed necessary.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: Must be certified thru KLETC. This employee must be at least 21 years of age. This employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within six months to one year of employment.
Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. A valid Kansas driver's license, and attend a law enforcement training center within one year of employment.
Technical Skills: A working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, firearms, law enforcement techniques. This employee must be able to operate radar equipment, firearms, patrol vehicles, communication equipment, and other law enforcement equipment. The ability to read and interpret reports, written instructions and excellent communication, organizational and public relations skills are required.
Problem Solving: Problem solving is a factor in this position. This employee encounters problems with domestic violence, victim trauma, collection of evidence and civil disputes.
Decision Making: Decision making is a factor in this position. This employee makes decisions about making arrests, investigating crimes and accidents, issuing citations and performing daily duties in the safest and most efficient manner.
Supervision: This employee works with limited supervision from The Chief of Police and has no supervisory duties. Working Conditions: Adverse working conditions exist with this position. Exposure to human blood and body fluid, hazardous chemicals and all types of weather conditions is expected. This position contains an element of risk to personal safety.
Physical Requirements: The ability to pass and maintain the physical requirements and activities of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.
