    The City of Fredonia, Kansas is currently accepting applications for Full Time Police Officer. The police department works 12-hour shifts (84 hours per pay period), with every other weekend scheduled off. Police Officers may be required to work holidays, nights and weekends as assigned. The Fredonia Police Department is family oriented and can be flexible with personal scheduling conflicts if the required hours are met within the pay period and staffing permits. Once certified, officers will be afforded the opportunity to attend specialized training that serves within the interest of the department.

    Fredonia is a city of approximately 2,100 people located in southeast Kansas, approximately 90 miles from four major metropolitan areas.

    SALARY: Entry level Police Officers can start at approximately $14.00/hr. with raises after graduation from KLETC and a 90-day post academy probation period.

    Starting salary for Lateral entry Police Officers is between $17.00-$19.90 per hour based upon experience and qualifications. Out of state officers will be required to attend 40-hour reciprocity training within the first year of employment.

    The Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training was created as an independent state agency during the 2006 legislative session to regulate the law enforcement profession in the State of Kansas.  The staff of the Commission is responsible for implementation of regulations and policies set by the KS- CPOST Commission.  The Executive Director is the agency head, and guidance is provided by the Chairman and various committees of the Commission.  This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

    This position primarily focuses on two main duties and responsibilities, both of which are critical to the operation of the Agency:  The agencies first point of contact and assisting the Central Registry Manager with accurate data entry for all forms submitted to the agency 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    40%   Receptionist Responsibilities 

    This position is critical to the operation of the agency, and extremely reliable attendance at the designated agency work site is an essential function is necessary. Answering the telephone and responding to questions are essential to the position. This position is expected to process all incoming and outgoing mail.  This position will manage the office calendar and process receipts for reconciliation.  

    40%   Assists Central Registry Manager  

    This position involves receiving agency mail or faxes, stamping with time and date, organizing based on task, and assisting the Central Registry Manager with processing the information received in an organized manner to the appropriate data base then filing the paperwork accurately.  Data entry accuracy is essential to the position.  

    10%   Manage Office Supplies 

    This position maintains inventories of office equipment, supplies and forms and reorders supplies as necessary, which includes approving requisitions, obtaining purchase order numbers and the purchase of supplies and materials. 

    5%   Provide Backup Support 

    Support legal counsel, investigators and central registry personnel when needed for organizational efficiency. 

    5%   Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

    May include attendance and completion of training assigned by Executive Director, analyzing or proofreading documents for errors and other miscellaneous tasks.  As well as taking minutes at committee and commission meetings.  

    THIS POSITION IS CRITICAL TO THE OPERATION OF THE AGENCY, AND EXTREMELY RELIABLE ATTENDANCE AT THE DESIGNATED AGENCY WORK SITE IS AN ESSENTIAL FUNCTION.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    1.Ability to pass a criminal history background check.  

    2.   One years of responsible administrative support/assistant experience.

    3.Demonstrated reading, writing, grammar and comprehension abilities to effectively interact with coworkers, citizens, and business associates and to comprehend work direction. 

    4.   Work history reflecting competence in office practices, records filing and management techniques, and effective customer service techniques.

    5.Ability to receive general instructions and independently develop methods to produce desired results with limited supervision.

    6.Demonstrated use and knowledge of computers to include proficiency in the operation of Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc. is mandatory.  

    7.   Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures, troubleshoot complex problems, compile and analyze data, and prepare reports. 

    8.   Ability to employ effective customer service techniques.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

    This position will require reaching, keyboarding, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions and climbing up and down a two-step stool in the process of filing.  Duties entail sedentary work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force or lifting equal amounts. Must be able to lift or carry files. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Although the position is primarily sedentary it will require walking, standing and climbing up and down on a two-step stepstool.  Bending to floor levels to lift and file will be required. Stretching above head level is also needed for the same purpose.

    Conway Springs, Kansas is a close-knit, vibrant community located 20 minutes from Dwight D. Eisenhower Airport.  We offer small-town, family-oriented living with close access to big city accommodations. Our population is 1100  and we run a 24-7 police department with 3 full-time sworn personnel and several part-time positions. Our School  Resource Officer / Dare Instructor needs to be re-established, and moving forward we are looking to implement a reserve program.     • Arrests individuals who violate laws and ordinances, and appears in court as the arresting  officer

    • Operates and maintains all police equipment, including communication devices used to  correspond with dispatchers 

    • Attends all required continuing education classes 

    • Guards/transports prisoners, conducts interviews of persons, ships/receives evidence, and  directs traffic as necessary 

    • Attends monthly staff meetings 

    • Serves as part of the Code Enforcement Team under the supervision of The Chief of Police Marginal Functions 

    • Assists Fire/EMS with crowd/traffic control, and patient loading 

    • Escorts funeral processions

    The Parsons Police Department is expanding and is recruiting for both recruit and lateral (experienced) police officers. As a community-oriented police agency we subscribe to a ‘guardian philosophy’ of policing. A recent community survey gave the agency a 96% favorable rating in our service provided to the community. The men and women of the Parsons Police Department are committed to our values of Pride, Professionalism and Dedication. 

    The City of Parsons is the 37th largest city in Kansas and is the largest community in Labette County. Parsons schools are routinely rated as superior, housing prices are affordable, and Parsons retains a small-town feel.

    The Parsons Police Department is a 28-sworn member agency that is in the self-assessment phase of accreditation with the Kansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (KLEAP). A new 50,000 sq foot Public Safety Center is in the planning stages (and purchased, architectural designs completed). A new 300-degree use of force simulator has been installed, the regional KLETC Training Center is operating in a police annex, and half of the agency employees hold one or more instructor ratings. 

    Patrol officers work a 12-hour shift working only 15 days a month. Officers also enjoy excellent benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, KP&F retirement, vacation, holidays, sick leave, and there are additional monthly incentives for selected instructor ratings, FTO’s and special assignments that can total up to a maximum of $5,400 in annual incentive pay.

    Free tuition paid at Labette Community College to obtain as associate degree.

    The starting wage for non-certified candidates (Officer 1) starts at $42,995. Certified candidates are given credit for prior service and can fall into the Officer 1 range that tops out at $49,123 or be considered for the Officer 2 range ($55,841 with a top out at $63,688), depending on experience and qualifications.
