Wellington, the County Seat for Sumner County, Kansas, is known as the “Wheat Capital of the World”, located in south central Kansas approximately 20 miles north of the Kansas/Oklahoma borders. Wellington is the largest city in Sumner County.

At nearly 7,550 strong, Wellington residents represent all walks of life. Building on a rich agricultural tradition, farmers make up a large portion of Wellington's population. Having harvested record numbers of wheat over the past several years, Wellington farmers embrace the historical significance of Kansas agriculture while also carrying it into the future.

As a Wellington Police Officer, you must be a person of honor, integrity, possess strong communication skills, and be able to render sound decisions under pressure. Most of all, you must be committed to public service, which includes participating in community service events/activities, assisting our citizens, and investigating/solving crimes.

Salary Range: $19.31-$28.50 DOQ

Qualifications:  Minimum qualification includes, high school or GED diploma, 21 years of age at time of appointment, no Felony, domestic violence or serious misdemeanor offenses. Selection process includes a written exam, oral board interview, psychological examination, Health/drug screen, physical agility test, and background investigation. The applicant must live within 20 minutes of the city limits of Wellington. Current certified law enforcement officer preferred, but not required.
