    The Council Grove Police Department is accepting applications for a full time Police Officer that is proactive and possesses a good work ethic.

    The Police Department works a 2-2-3 schedule, with every other weekend off, and consists of a Chief, Lieutenant, Sergeant, four full time officers, including a K9 Team, and three part time officers.

    The city of Council Grove is the county seat of Morris County, Kansas, with a population of over 2,000 residents. It is home to the Council Grove City Lake, the Council Grove Federal Reservoir, and 13 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are several local eateries, a twenty four hour convenience store, a Dollar General, and several small businesses including a local grocery store.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    The City of Goddard, Kansas (pop. 6,300) is presently accepting applications for a full-time Police Service  Officer II.     The Goddard Police Department provides professional services to provide for the safety and security of our  citizens. This agency is staffed with 14 full-time commissioned Law Enforcement Officers and 2 civilian  Police Service Officer’s (PSO’s). Employees respond to requests from citizens needing assistance and act  as necessary for the protection of life and property. PSO-II work involves an element of danger and requires  the use of judgment, knowledge and skills in law enforcement procedures and policies. Responsibilities  also include preliminary investigation at crime scenes and detailed documentation. 

    Essential Functions: 

    • Patrol areas of the city either by patrol vehicle, or on foot to prevent and discover animal control  violations, enforce parking regulations and clear traffic hazards. 

    • Captures animals running at large; removes and disposes of dead animals. 

    • Answer calls and complaints received by radio, telephone, or in person involving animal control  violations, vicious and or injured animals, parking complaints, abandoned vehicles and or traffic  hazards. 

    • Transports unclaimed or seized animals to the animal shelter; transports sick and injured animals  to a veterinary clinic or animal shelter. 

    • Investigates and provides preliminary recommendations on animal bite and cruelty cases. • Issues warnings, citations and summons to violators of animal control and parking violations. • Attends to the kennels by providing food and water to animals, while ensuring kennels are clean.  • Use a tranquilizer gun or firearm to contain or destroy animals as needed. 

    • Advises the public regarding compliance with health regulations and rabies protection. • Maintains a log of daily activities to include type of activity or call, time spent on each activity or  call, and action taken on each incident. 

    • Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, and locate witnesses. 

    • Appear in court to present evidence and/or testify as required. 

    • Conduct safety-related community awareness and public relations work. 

    • May administer basic first aid. 

    • Provides assistance to stranded motorists and assists with traffic control duties. • Interview people with complaints or inquiries and make proper disposition or direct them to proper  authorities. 

    • May assist with urinalysis and breath alcohol test of individuals appearing in municipal court.

    • May search, photograph and fingerprint prisoners. 

    • Maintain records, prepare detailed reports and perform other clerical duties. • Locate, process, identify, collect, and preserve physical evidence. 

    • Attend classes, conferences, or seminars as assigned, deemed necessary to the best interests of  the city and department. 

    • Attend training to retain certifications. 

    • May be required to assist with a variety of motor vehicle accidents. 

    • Perform related work as required and directed.

    Norton is located in Norton County, Kansas. Our community borders Nebraska and we are the fourth county east of Colorado. The Prairie Dog State Park (Sebelius Reservoir) is located 4 miles west of Norton, offering great camping, boating and is one of the top fishing lakes in the state of Kansas! The area offers great hunting too!  South of Norton is one of the most highly maintained 9-hole golf courses in the area.  Norton also offers an exceptional school system.     The Norton Police Department is currently comprised of 7 officers: Chief of Police, Assistant Chief of Police, Sergeant/FTO and 4 patrol officers. Each officer is provided with a tailored outer carrier molle police ballistic vest purchased by the department and is issued a Class A uniform to be worn for court and special services.

    Shifts: Our officers enjoy 12-hour shifts that allow for every other Friday, Saturday, Sunday OFF regardless of seniority level.  All shifts primarily consist of two patrol officers.

    1. Develops and presents education programs, including safety, alcohol and drug abuse, traffic and criminal law, government, crime prevention, etc.  Coordinates education programs with school personnel

    2. Complies with all USD 428, city and departmental policies and procedures.

    3. Coordinate or assist with DARE core curriculum, prepare teaching materials (i.e., lesson plans, student notebooks, handouts, visual aids, etc.)  Assist with scheduling and coordinating DARE student graduation ceremonies. Provides directions to other DARE officers in the teaching of the DARE curriculum.

    4. Maintains good relationships with school principals, counselors, and other key school personnel.

    5. Visits classrooms as time permits.

    6. Prepare and give presentations at faculty in-service meetings, parent education evenings, PTA meetings, community service organizations, etc.

    7. Participates in extracurricular activities with students.

    8. Attend school in-service training sessions as time permits.

    9. Meets with U.S.D. 428 administration for feedback and program development.

    10. Develops and maintains an expertise on events and information related to the schools and students.

    11. Appears on television and/or radio promoting the department and programs.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

    • Works on rotating shifts performing security patrols, traffic control, investigation and first aid at accidents, detection, investigation and arrest of persons involved in crimes or misconduct.
    • Works an assigned shift using own judgment in deciding course of action being expected to handle difficult and emergency situations without assistance.
    • Maintains normal availability by radio or telephone for consultation on major emergencies or precedent. Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and City laws and ordinances; Patrols City streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to preserve the peace and enforce the law,

    control vehicular traffic, prevent or detect and investigate misconduct involving misdemeanors, felonies  and other law violations, and to otherwise serve and protect.  

    • Responds to emergency radio calls and investigates accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic disputes, fights, drunkenness, missing children, prowlers, abuse of drugs, etc. Takes appropriate law enforcement action.
    • Interrogates suspects, witnesses and drivers. Preserves evidence. Arrests and issues notice to appear to violators. Investigates and renders assistance at scene of vehicular accidents. Summons ambulances and other law enforcement vehicles. Takes measurements and draws diagrams of scene.
    • Conducts follow-up investigations of crimes committed during assigned shift. Seeks out and questions victim, witnesses and suspects. Develops leads and tips. Searches scene of crimes for clues. Analyzes and evaluates evidence and arrests offenders. Prepares cases for giving testimony and testifies in court proceedings.
    • Prepares a variety of reports and records including reports of investigation, field interrogation report, alcohol reports, influence reports, breathalyzer check list, vehicle impoundment form, traffic hazard report, etc.
    • Undertakes community oriented police work, and assists citizens with such matters as locked or stalled vehicles, crime prevention, drug abuse resistance education (DARE), traffic safety, etc. Participates in investigating criminal law violations occurring within the City limits, obtaining evidences and compiling information regarding these crimes, preparing cases for filing of charges, testifying in court, and related activities.
    • Conducts patrol activities including directing traffic, investigation of reported or observed violations of law, and conducting patrol activities.
    • Coordinates activities with other officers or other City departments as needed, exchanges information with officers in other law enforcement agencies, and obtains advice from the City Attorney and the City Administrator regarding cases, policies and procedures, as needed and assigned.
    • Maintains contact with police supervisory personnel to coordinate investigation activities, provide mutual assistance during emergency situations and provides general information about Department activities. Other duties as assigned.

    PERIPHERAL DUTIES 

    • Maintains departmental equipment, supplies and facilities.
    • Maintains contact with general public, court officials, and other City officials in the performance of police operating activities.
    • Serves as a member of various employee committees.
    • Acts as a dispatcher in the absence of the dispatcher.

    DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Entry Level -General:  

    • Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment.
    • Must possess a valid state driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any state. Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years are not allowed. U.S. citizen.
    • Must be able to read and write in English.
    • Must be of good moral character, temperate, and industrious habits.

    Education and Experience:  

    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

    • Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Some skill in operating the tools and equipment listed below.
    • Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations; ability to perform work requiring good physical condition; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors; ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to meet the special requirements listed below; ability to learn the City's geography; ability to develop minimum skills with firearms; ability to act quickly and rationally in emergency situations; ability to deal courteously but firmly with the general public.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  

    • Ability to meet department's physical standards.
    • Must maintain ability to pass psychological evaluation.
    • Must be willing to work shift work, weekend days and holidays.
    • Must have telephone service for emergency contact.

    Lateral Entry:  

    • Must be able to meet all entry level requirements listed above.
    • Must be able to pass medical exam and the department's physical agility test.
    • Successful completion of State Basic Training Academy including state certification within one (1) year after employment.
    • Must complete psychological evaluation subsequent to employment.

    Patrol vehicle, police radio, radar gun, handgun, and other weapons as required, handcuffs, breathalyzer, first  aid equipment, and other tools and equipment as required

    Position Summary: Provide law enforcement and public safety services to the Johnson County Community College (JCCC) community. This includes enforcement of criminal statutes with full arrest authority, parking and traffic enforcement, crime prevention, patrol activity, accident investigation, resolution of domestic and other disturbances, prosecution support, non-criminal public safety services, and enforcement of college policies, rules, and regulations.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Career-development professional within field.
    • Requires moderate skill set and proficiency in discipline.
    • Conducts work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.
    • Requires High School degree and certification as Kansas-commissioned Police Officer.

    Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

    • Monitor activity in buildings and conduct security patrols on foot or in vehicle to detect suspicious activity, deter crime, preserve law and order, and safeguard life and property. 
    • Monitor campus grounds for any safety hazards.
    • Answer calls for service typical of a college environment, such as responding to medical emergencies, serving as a personal escort, locking and unlocking classroom doors, providing money escorts, property recovery, and keeping campus thoroughfares and lots unobstructed. 
    • Provide assistance to students, staff, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner that instills trust and respect within the JCCC community. Perform duties in a conscientious and efficient manner. 
    • Control traffic flow and enforce state and local traffic regulations.
    • Provide warnings, issue citations, and make arrests for violations of state laws, local ordinances, or JCCC policies and rules. 
    • Conduct interviews with victims and witnesses and gather information and evidence. Prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities. Prepare related documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Respond swiftly to emergencies, such as accidents, medical incidents, natural disasters, and criminal incidents, providing assistance and coordinating with other emergency services as required.
    • Testify in courts and at hearings. Prepare documentation and present case evidence. 
    • Inspect and maintain assigned patrol car, uniform, and equipment. Ensure all equipment is working properly. Report any defects in need of correction to leaders. 
    • Assist with event security and protection of high-profile campus visitors.

    The City of Colby Police Department is seeking applications to fill the position of Detective. It is a sworn law enforcement role with an investigations focus in a Department of 13 sworn officers in a growing community in western Kansas. 

    Applicants must be a US Citizen, twenty-one (21) years of age, and meet the Department standards in the following categories: background investigation, written testing, interviews, psychological test, drug screening and POET physical. Other requirements include a valid Kansas Driver’s license, high school diploma or equivalent and residency requirements. 

    Additional requirements would include Kansas Law Enforcement Certification or ability to obtain reciprocal certification. Three years law enforcement experience minimum but more is preferred. Experience in investigations or shown proficiency with felony level cases.

    Responsibilities would include investigating assigned criminal cases, assisting the patrol division in investigations and casework and call outs for high profile incidents or investigations where additional experience would be useful. Additionally the detective requires coordinating and building relationships with other law enforcement, social service, educational and private entities to assist in resolving cases. The position includes some call response/patrol and could occasionally include shift coverage in as needed situations. 

    The position is traditionally a Monday through Friday Positon, with some exceptions for special events or circumstances, with weekends and holidays off. It has some flexibility in the schedule and is an hourly position with opportunities for overtime or comp time. 

    The position’s pay will depend on qualifications and experience.
