    The City of Goddard, Kansas (pop. 6,300) is presently accepting applications for a full time Police Officer.     The Goddard Police Department provides professional police services to provide for the safety and security of our citizens. This agency is staffed with 14 full-time commissioned Law Enforcement Officers and 1 civilian Police Service Officer. Employees respond to requests of citizens assistance and act as necessary for the protection of life and property. Work involves an element of danger and requires the use of judgment, knowledge and skills in law enforcement procedures and policies. Responsibilities also include preliminary investigation at crime scenes and detailed documentation.  

    Essential Functions

    • Patrol areas of the city either by patrol vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crime, and to enforce motor vehicle and parking regulations and correct traffic hazards.

    • Answer calls and complaints received by radio, telephone, or in person involving emergency, disorder, and crime.

    • Interview people with complaints or inquiries, take statements and tend to proper disposition of the information or direct them to proper authorities.

    • Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, and locate witnesses.

    • Make arrests and/or take prisoners to jail.

    • Appear in court to present evidence and/or testify as required.

    • Conduct police-related community awareness and public relations work.

    • May administer basic first aid.

    • Conduct preliminary investigations, locate witnesses, affect arrests. 

    • Interview people with complaints or inquiries and make proper disposition or direct them to proper authorities.

    • Conduct preliminary investigations of major crimes or felonies.

    • Serve criminal processes including warrants and subpoenas, testify as a witness in court.

    • Maintain records, prepare reports and perform other clerical duties.

    • Locate, process, identify, collect, and preserve physical evidence.

    • Ensure prisoners are charged and transported to proper facilities.

    • Process crime scenes for latent fingerprint and palm print impressions and photograph all pertinent evidence.

    • Attend classes, conferences, or seminars as assigned, deemed necessary to the best interests of the city and department.

    • Attend training to retain certifications.

    • Ensure 40 hours of in-service training is completed each year of employment.

    • Perform related work as required and directed.

    Pay starts at $45,760 annually for non-commissioned employees. Pay increases to $49,940 after completion of KLETC and receiving certification. Commissioned experience can be taken into consideration for increased pay rate at the discretion of the Chief of Police. 

    Candidates recommended for hire will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, polygraph or CVSA, psychological, and physical exams.

    About the Police Department

    The Oberlin Police Department (OPD) is a dedicated team of four full-time Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs). Each full-time sworn LEO is assigned a vehicle and responds to calls as needed. The Sheriff’s Office maintains a 12-bed jail facility in the courthouse, located in Oberlin, which the OPD may utilize. While it is preferred that OPD officers live within city limits for on-call coverage and emergency callout needs, requests for outside residency may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    The OPD and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office enjoy an excellent working relationship. All city OPD officers are currently sworn deputy sheriffs with authority throughout the county.

    About the Job

    The Police Officer serves as a front-line representative of the City of Oberlin, responsible for maintaining public safety, enforcing laws, and fostering trust within the community. Under the direction of the Chief of Police, officers perform a wide range of duties including patrol, emergency response, investigation, and community engagement.

    This role requires integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to ethical law enforcement in a rural setting. Officers are expected to uphold the values of transparency, professionalism, and service while working collaboratively with residents, businesses, and regional partners.

    The Linn County Sheriff's Office is currently searching for a motivated, certified law enforcement individual for a full-time position as a Deputy.  Linn County is located 45 miles south of the greater Kansas City Metro Area.  The Linn County Sheriff's Office consists of 24 sworn Deputies in the Law Enforcement Division.  The Law Enforcement Division consists of 10-person patrol unit, 6 person School Resource unit, 3 person Investigations unit and 2 person Court Security Division.  Individual selected to fill this position will be responsible for enforcing local, state and federal laws, investigating crimes, enforcing traffic regulations investigating traffic crashes, assisting the public and serving on a TEAM that takes great pride in serving and protecting the community.

    • Officers working in specialized positions must live within 40 minutes response time; no residency requirements for new Police Officers.

    • Certified Pay: $22.22-$32.53 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)
    • Built in overtime pay with opportunities for more.

    Work Schedule

    Bi-monthly Night/Day rotations, where officers work 12-hour shifts for 7 days in a 14-day period. Including every other 3-day weekend off.

    The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) is seeking applicants to serve as role players. Following a script, role players serve as victims, witnesses, or suspects in training scenarios for Basic Training students. In addition to extra income, role players have the opportunity to assist with the training of the next generation of Kansas law enforcement officers.

    Position Salary/Benefits -- $15.00 / hr

    Minimum Requirement for Position – Current or former law enforcement officers preferred.
