    The Deputy Police Chief assists the Police Chief with planning, directing, managing, supervising and overseeing the activities and operations of the Police Department. Provides input and feedback on management issues including personnel, budgeting, long and short-term planning, technology and equipment, policies and procedures and community affairs. Work is performed with wide latitude for independent judgment subject to established policies and governing laws, rules, and regulations.

    This position provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Police Chief and functions as the Acting Police Chief in the absence of the Police Chief. 

    Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Criminology or equivalent field, Masters Degree in an appropriate field is preferred; at least ten (10) ten years of service as a sworn law enforcement officer including at least three years of administrative and supervisory experience beyond first line supervisor.; graduation from a law enforcement command school (e.g. FBI National Academy, SMIP or SPI) or similar credential preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required, knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires possession of a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Must be Kansas C-Post Certified or able to gain certification and able to maintain a proficiency in firearms as required C-Post standards. 

    Must successfully pass a polygraph exam, police background check, mental health screen, drug screen and physical exam prior to employment. Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting: strength and mobility to operate a motor vehicle and take command at an incident or emergency scene: strength and stamina to lift and carry 25 pounds; vision to observe emergency scenes and investigation and to read printed material and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups and over the telephone/ and or radio. 

    • Salary/Pay Rate:  $117,108/yr - $131,736/yr

    The City of Marquette is seeking a highly motivated individual to fulfill the duties of a part-time law enforcement officer.Our department is looking for a professional, motivated person with strong moral character, who has an interest in protecting and serving the residents of a small community which takes great pride in its small-town feel. Applicants should possess a community-orienting policing mindset and desire, and should possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

    Responsibilities:

    • Enforce all city codes, ordinances, state laws, and federal laws.

    • Respond to calls for police service, both emergency and non-emergency.

    • Patrol the city in vehicle and by foot to prevent and discover criminal activity.

    • Enforce traffic laws and issue traffic citations when appropriate.

    • Secure and investigate crime scenes along with the collection and preservation of evidence.

    Benefits: Part-Time Employees are eligible Participate in the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) and the City contributes for part-time employees as well. Additionally, Police Officers receive a $50 per month cell phone allotment and an annual $250 uniform allotment. 

    Schedule: This work schedule is dependent on the applicant’s availability and available shifts as assigned by the Chief of Police. Hours available are dependent on the applicant’s desired amount and agency needs, however part-time officers cannot exceed 1,000 hours annually. 

    Certification: A Current KLETC Certification is REQUIRED for Part-Time Officers.

The City of Marquette does not offer group Health Insurance, however full-time employees are given a monthly insurance allotment of $450. Additionally, Police Officers receive a $50 per month cell phone allotment and an annual $250 uniform allotment. Full-Time employees also receive sick leave and vacation leave. 

    Schedule: This work schedule is dependent on the applicant’s availability and available shifts as assigned by the Chief of Police. Full-Time Officers will be scheduled 40 hours per week and a shift schedule will consist of 8 or 10 hour shifts with alternating weekends off.

    Certification: A Current KLETC Certification is Preferred, however we are willing to train and certify a qualified applicant.

    The Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training wishes to fill the position of Executive Director.  Please note the conditions of appointment as listed in this document. 

    The Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training oversees law enforcement certification and training in the State of Kansas and has the authority to initiate administrative investigations and disciplinary proceedings against the 8,300+ active law enforcement officers.  The KSCPOST is also charged with tracking the training and employment histories of all certified law enforcement officers.  The Executive Director of the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training functions as the agency head and reports directly to the 12-member Commission.  

    Under general guidance provided by the Chairman and various committees of the Commission, the Executive Director will provide overall leadership of staff in the development and implementation of short and long range plans and policies and other activities, develop and implement the annual budget, develop and implement policies, procedures and regulations subject to the approval of the Commission, work with law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies throughout the state, provide oversight of the certification and decertification process for law enforcement officers throughout the State of Kansas, including the supervision of administrative disciplinary investigations, support all activities associated with the Commission, including staffing for all Commission and committee meetings, meeting schedules, locations, development of agenda, meeting materials and minutes, and oversee the operation of the Central Registry of law enforcement officers created by KSA 74-5611a. 

    Some travel will be required. 

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Baccalaureate degree in criminal justice or a related area from an institution accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations in the United.

    2. At least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement with at least 5 years of management experience.

    3. Knowledge of and a demonstrated ability to work with other members of the law enforcement community.

    4. Excellent written communications skills as demonstrated in the cover letter and resume.

    5. Holder of or eligible to obtain a valid and current Kansas driver’s license.

    6. Active certification as a Kansas law enforcement officer or eligible to become certified by fulfilling all statutory requirements for active certification within one year of appointment. 


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    1. An advanced degree (Graduate Degree or Terminal Degree) in an academic discipline related to law enforcement from an institution accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations in the United States.

    2. Knowledge of and a demonstrated ability to work with other members of the Kansas law enforcement community.

    3. A graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers Course, PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) or other nationally recognized law enforcement leadership program.

    4. Experience with or knowledge of purchasing, human resources, budgeting and financial systems.

    5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    6. Experience with agency branding, to include web-based applications and social media. 


    Starting Salary:  $125,000 to $135,5000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

    The City of Belle Plaine, Kansas is accepting applications to fill the position of School Resource Officer/D.A.R.E. Officer for the 2024-2025 School Year. Under the supervision of the Chief of Police this position will serve as a School Resource Officer/D.A.R.E. Officer for the Belle Plaine School District USD 357. During periods when school is not in session this position will serve as Patrol Officer for the City of Belle Plaine. D.A.R.E Instructor (Officer) is for 5th grade students (10 weeks) and 4 to 5 weeks of D.A.R.E Instruction for Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade. The City of Belle Plaine will cover D.A.R.E Training (14 days) expenses. The State of Kansas requires candidates for this position to have been a certified law enforcement officer for at least 2 years. The SRO officer will attend specialized training if the candidate has not completed the Basic Training for an SRO position.

    Hours may vary depending on school activities and the needs of the City during school breaks. The SRO is expected to attend all home football and basketball activities as well as other activities. A typical work day for an SRO is Monday – Friday 7:30am to 3:30pm.

    Pay: $20.00 and up DOQ

    Education Requirement:

    2 years as a certified law enforcement officer. 

    Applicants possessing current, active, Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) certification preferred.

    Successful candidates must be able to work with youth and serve as a positive role model for students. Candidates for this position must be professional and motivated, with a strong moral character and an interest in protecting and serving the students and staff of the Belle Plaine School District USD 357, and the residents of Belle Plaine.     The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a 3 full time Detention Officers.
