    The City of Hill City, Kansas seeks a dedicated, energetic individual who demonstrates a high level of integrity, to serve as a police officer for The Hill City Police Department.  The department presently operates with four full-time sworn officers, and 2 part time officers, who serve the city’s approximately 1,500 residents.

    The City of Hill City is the county seat, located at the intersection of Highway 283 and Highway 24, in Graham County Kansas.  Hill City is approximately 45 minutes north and west of Hays, Kansas (58 miles) and approximately 4 hrs. and 30 minutes east of Denver, Colorado. (299 Miles)

    The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work as a team.  The ideal candidate will understand the challenges associated with law enforcement in a western Kansas rural community.  The ideal candidate is willing to engage with the community, and work effectively with others to continuously improve community relations. 

    Essential Job Requirements:

    High School Diploma or G.E.D.

    Possess or able to obtain a valid Kansas Driver’s License. 

    Be a U.S. Citizen, 21 years of age or older by the date of hire.

    Capable of gaining a certification through The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.

    Successfully pass a background investigation, a drug test, psychological examination, physical examination, and be able to legally carry a handgun.

    Be willing to participate in a discussion with an interview board.

    To reside within The Hill City Limits after a reasonable amount of time after date of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college.
    • Current fulltime law enforcement officer certificate from The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, or the ability to pass a reciprocity class.

    The Haskell County Sheriff's Office is currently taking applications for the position of PATROL DEPUTY.  Haskell County is in Southwest Kansas and provides contract law enforcement to the Cities of Sublette and Satanta. Benefits include full family health insurance, KP&F retirement, paid holidays, paid vacation and sick time accumulated upon employment. All duty equipment is provided by the department.

    In addition to the Sheriff and Undersheriff, we offer the advancements of two sergeant positions, detective, K-9 handler, and two SRO positions. Patrol deputies currently work 12.5-hour shifts on a rotating schedule that normally allows for a 3-day weekend every other weekend.

    Salary: $20.01 per hour for noncertified law enforcement officers, and $21.01-26.01 per hour for certified law enforcement officers. Pay raises will be given with completion of the academy and time of service with the office

    Minimal Qualifications: 21 years of age, US Citizen, high school diploma or equivalent, ability to obtain a valid Kansas driver's license, and no felony or major misdemeanor convictions.

    Description & Details

    The City of Belle Plaine, Kansas is accepting applications to fill the position of School Resource Officer/D.A.R.E. Officer for the 2024-2025 School Year. Under the supervision of the Chief of Police this position will serve as a School Resource Officer/D.A.R.E. Officer for the Belle Plaine School District USD 357. During periods when school is not in session this position will serve as Patrol Officer for the City of Belle Plaine. D.A.R.E Instructor (Officer) is for 5th grade students (10 weeks) and 4 to 5 weeks of D.A.R.E Instruction for Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade. The City of Belle Plaine will cover D.A.R.E Training (14 days) expenses. The State of Kansas requires candidates for this position to have been a certified law enforcement officer for at least 2 years. The SRO officer will attend specialized training if the candidate has not completed the Basic Training for an SRO position.

    Hours may vary depending on school activities and the needs of the City during school breaks. The SRO is expected to attend all home football and basketball activities as well as other activities. A typical work day for an SRO is Monday – Friday 7:30am to 3:30pm.

    Successful candidates must be able to work with youth and serve as a positive role model for students. Candidates for this position must be professional and motivated, with a strong moral character and an interest in protecting and serving the students and staff of the Belle Plaine School District USD 357, and the residents of Belle Plaine. Candidates should possess a community-oriented mindset and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Key components of job duties are as follows but not limited to:

    • Work with school administration staff

    • Be present in areas of student congregation

    • Build relationships with students of all ages (Promote informal student-SRO contact)

Have: (A) graduated from a high school accredited by the Kansas state board of education or the appropriate accrediting agency of another state jurisdiction; (B) obtained a high school education from a nonaccredited private secondary school as defined in K.S.A. 2017 Supp. 72-4345, and amendments thereto; or (C) obtained the equivalent of a high school education as defined by rules and regulations of the commission;

    7. Be of good moral character sufficient to warrant the public trust in the applicant as a police officer or law enforcement officer. No candidates with Brady/Giglio will be considered.

    8. Submit to an extensive background investigation including previous employment history, references (both listed and unlisted), criminal history, and driving record along with a psychological examination, physical examination, and drug screen.

    9. Possess the ability to satisfactorily complete all required initial/annual training certification and firearms testing and qualification and retain same throughout duration of employment.

    The Russell County Sheriff’s Office is seeking to fill the position of  Emergency Management Director. This is a full-time position, under  the general supervision of the Russell County Sheriff. This position is  responsible for the operations of the Emergency Management  Department for Russell County. Performs comprehensive emergency  management program activities, which include mitigation,  preparedness, response and recovery. May lead or assist with  projects in many program areas including disaster exercises,  planning, public education, operations, public information, logistics,  technology and equipment support, homeland security and  training.     The Harper County Sheriff’s Office has an opening for a full-time Deputy Sheriff position.  Our Office is looking for a professional, motivated person with strong moral character, who has an interest in protecting and serving the residents of Harper County.  Applicants should possess a community-orienting policing mindset, and should possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Familiarity with Microsoft word and basic typing skills are preferred but not required. 

    The Harper County Sheriff’s Office consists of the Sheriff, Undersheriff, Sergeant, K-9 Deputy, School Resource Officer, two sworn Deputies, one part time Deputy, and one Reserve Deputy.  Our Office also employs 5 Detention Deputies in the Harper County Detention Center. Our schedule consists of set 12-hour shifts that allow a 3-day weekend off every other week.  Harper County offers paid health and dental insurance options, employer funded Health Reimbursement Account, KPERS retirement plan, Life Insurance and a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit.     COMPENSATION

    Starting salary for uncertified Deputy Sheriff is $18.60/hr., increasing to $19.16/hr. after completion of the police academy and probationary period.  Lateral applicants will be paid dependent on qualifications, years of experience and other certifications. 

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Experience: One year of similar experience is preferred. This employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform skills reasonably well within one year of employment.

    Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. This position requires graduation from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, or from a reciprocating law enforcement training center and a valid Kansas Driver’s License.

    Technical Skills: A thorough knowledge of all federal, state and local laws, computers, investigative techniques, first aid, and firearms. This employee must be able to efficiently operate, computers, firearms, patrol vehicles, radar, equipment, cameras, and other law enforcement equipment.

    Problem Solving and Decision Making: Problem solving and decision making are a factor in this position. This employee encounters problems on a daily basis.  This employee makes decisions about investigation of criminal activity, use of force, making arrests, and performing daily duties in the safest and most efficient manner.
